A loan of $1,000 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and seasonal clothing such as: bathing suits, T-shirts and shorts.

Mónica Elizabeth's story

The communal bank "Mujeres Activas" meets every 15 days in the Santa Clara neighborhood of the city of Manta. This city is known for its beautiful beaches that are visited in every season of the year by national and international tourists, and for being one of the most important ports in the country and in America.

Here we meet Monica, who is 24 years old, single, and lives in her parent's house with her parents and a younger sister. This is her 2nd loan cycle with the communal bank, and she likes it because through the loans she has managed to make progress with her business.

She works for the provincial government, but she also has a business selling seasonal clothing and Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products such as cosmetics, perfumes and accessories for women.) She works every day in her free time, distributing her products on credit and collecting every week or 15 days, according to the wishes of her customers. She receives her products in her house, and goes to buy the clothing in Guayaquil.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and seasonal clothing such as bathing suits, shorts, T-shirts, and other items. She dreams of someday having a boutique.
