A loan of $950 helped to buy a hair straightening comb, a hair dryer and other beauty accessories.

María Rosaly's story

The Mujeres Activas (Active Women) communal bank meets every two weeks in the Santa Clara neighborhood of the city of Manta, known for its beautiful beaches that are visited all year round by both national and foreign tourists because it’s one of the most important ports of the country and of America located along the shores of the Pacific.

We met María, 24, here. She’s married and has a beautiful, 6 year old daughter who is in first grade in elementary school. Her husband works for Ales Industries. She used to live in Guayaquil but 8 years ago moved to this beautiful city where she got married and now has established her life.

She has worked in a barber shop for a long time. She knows about beauty and personal care. She tells us that she has learned more here and during her free time she does free lance beauty work alongside her costume jewelry, which she brings from Guayaquil, sales business. She hopes to have her own beauty salon shortly so is gradually purchasing everything needed to one day soon open her own salon.

She will use this loan to buy a hair straightening comb, a hair dryer and other accessories needed for her work. This is her second cycle in the communal bank. She is the Rules & Regulations Advisor and she likes it because the loans are easy to make. Her dream is to own a great beauty salon.
