A loan of $725 helped buy bags of manure and fertilizer.

Marcelino's story

Marcelino, 29, is a native of the San Miguel district. He is married to Carmen, 26, and they have two children, Jan who is 9 and Nels who is 6. They live in their own home in the town of Palmapampa in Samugari district. Marcelino is a farmer, his parents taught him this when he was very young. He has been working his own farm for 8 years, when he grows the following products: cocoa, coffee, coca leaves and banana. At harvest time he has the support of day laborers, which helps him produce results in the shortest time possible before selling the harvest in the city of San Francisco, which is where he can get good prices for the quality of his products. What he likes most about his work is harvesting, since that´s when he feels the months of hard work are rewarded. He considers the most difficult part moving the products from harvest until drying. What he wants most is to increase production, which is why he is buying lots of land. This is his ninth loan with MFP and he feels that it helps him progress a lot. In his community bank he is much loved by the rest of his colleagues because he is very supportive of them. With the 2,000 new soles requested, he will buy more manure and fertilizers to improve the quality of his land.
