A loan of $375 helped purchase sacks of organic fertilizer.

Maria's story

María, age 55, is a hardworking and responsible woman. Despite being separated, she and her husband continue to work together to support their two daughters with whom she lives in the community of Unión Palomar in the central Peruvian jungle. María has been farming on her land for 33 years. What she enjoys most is the dedication that her daughters provide since they help care for and fertilize the crops, which consists mostly of coffee. After harvesting, the crops are sold at the Alto Palomar cooperative. Her daily earnings are more or less profitable from her crops of bananas and avocados that are harvested and sold in Paucartambo every fifteen days at a commercial annex. For the future of her daughters, she plans to improve her coffee crops since they have greater demand.

María belongs to the Communal Bank “Prestatrios de la Unión” (Borrowers of the Union) and this is her first loan with MFP. She promises to work toward the development of her group. María will be harvesting her coffee shortly, so she is requesting a loan to buy several sacks of organic fertilizer.
