A loan of $1,100 helped to buy fertilizers and insecticides to care for his fields.

Nilton's story

Nilton C. is 32 years old and was born in the district of San Francisco. He lives with Maribel Segarra, who is 28 years old, and they have two children, Kathy, 8, and Kelly, 3. They live in their own house in the community of Carmen Pampa in the district of Ayna San Francisco. Nilton is the provider for his family.

Ever since he was a young boy his parents taught him to work on the farm and since then he has become a farm laborer. He currently has 5 hectares of land that he uses to grow cocoa, turmeric, and coca, plants native to the jungle of the Apurimac River Valley. He has been working on his own land for 12 years and still enjoys his work very much. His favorite part is harvesting, when he feels that the months of hard work are rewarded by the quality of his produce. However, the most challenging aspect of his job is transporting his products from the farm to the city of San Francisco, where they offer the best prices for his grains and coca leaves. In the future he desires to buy more land to increase his crops. This is Nilton's fourth loan with MFP, he knows that if he repays it on time, he will be able to ask for another loan with greater confidence and without causing problems for his community bank. He will use the money to buy fertilizers and insecticides to care for his land and obtain better crops.
