A loan of $725 helped buying goods on a wholesale basis.

Maruja's story

Maruja is a member of the "Brisas" [Breezes] Communal Bank. She is 40 years old and has a live-in partner and 6 children. She is a market vendor who sells cereal grains. She buys the grains from wholesalers at the Nery García Zarate Market and travels every other Friday to the Department of Ica, where she sells her goods to the workers on the estates, and then returns on Sundays.

Maruja is requesting a loan to invest in buying merchandise. She enjoys the meetings of her communal bank, because the group learns and practices values. She can take out loans and save money, and her savings earn interest. She likes the talks given to the group about improving parent-child, family and marital relationships, and about work and self-esteem. Maruja is currently saving up to build a house.
