María Teresa's story

María B. is a member of the communal bank Mujeres Floreciendo [Women Blooming]. She lives in the community of Patamarca in the city of Cuenca. This city is reknowned for its natural and cultural beauty. Its gastronomical variety captivates the palates of both locals and strangers.

María is 41 years old, married, and has four children aged 23, 22, 18, and 16. Her eldest daughter works independently to cover her expenses, her eldest son is married and lives independently, her younger son studies at university, and her youngest daughter is studying in a high school in the city. Her husband works in construction as a mason, and together they built their own home.

María works in agriculture, planting vegetables which she sells in her own community. She also raises animals like pigs, guinea pigs and hens.

This is her first loan. She was invited to the communal bank by her sister. She is going to invest in the purchase of chickens. Her goal is to have a larger chicken hatchery.
