A loan of $4,000 helped a member to increase her capital by buying large quantities of onions to sell to her customers.

Ziganya Group's story

Sarah U. is a 41-year old trader, who lives in the municipality of Rugombo, which lies in the province of Cibitoke in the west of Burundi. She trades in onions which she buys at the market in Rugombo and then provides to her customers at the central market in the town of Bujumbura. She attended primary school up until 4th grade. She is mother to six children who are all studying. She is on her sixth community loan with Turame.

She is requesting the Kiva loan in order to increase her capital, by buying large quantities of onions to resell to her customers and thereby increase her savings. She hopes that the savings she makes from this loan will enable her to provide for her family's needs and buy a piece of land to build a house on.

She is a member of the "Ziganya" community group.
