Elvira G. is from the village of Poblacion, Talakag, Bukidnon. She is 53 years old. Elvira is married and has four adult children.
To make a living, Elvira owns and operates a sari-sari (variety) retail shop, selling daily use products such as shampoo, soap, canned goods, snack foods, beverages and toothpaste in the local community. Elvira has been engaged in her business for more than five years and earns approximately 4,000 PHP a month.
In 2010, Elvira joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. Elvira has successfully repaid a previous loan of 5,000 PHP from HSPFI. This previous loan was used to to purchase additional inventory and for working capital. Elvira is requesting a new loan of 8,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase additional products to sell like canned goods and snack foods. This will be the second loan taken out by Elvira from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan to improve and expand her business.
HSPFI is an accredited partner of Opportunity International in the Philippines. It is based in Cagayan de Oro City and is reaching out to the poor households of Northern Mindanao.
