Guadalupe's story

Mrs. Guadalupe Martínez Marcelo, 42, studied up to the sixth year of primary school and is married to Mr. Miguel Espinoza with whom she has four children: two boys, Juan Miguel, 23 and Alfredo, 19, who work and two girls, Selene and Xochil, 16 and 17, who are in high school in the community of La Reforma which is located 20 minutes away from their community. Doña Lupe (as she is known in her community) and her family live in the community of Vista Hermosa located 40 minutes from Tierra Blanca in Veracruz. To get to the community of Vista Hermosa one takes a bus that drops you off on the highway and then you must walk about 25 minutes to reach the community.

Doña Lupe tells us that she has been selling catalogue cosmetics and shoes for the last 8 years. She sells from house to house in her community taking the catalogues to her customers. She takes orders that she delivers to her supplier. When the orders arrive she delivers them to her customers and collects payment.

She decided to start her own business to help her husband meet household expenses and for her daughters’ education. Sometimes her daughter Selene helps her sell and collect from her customers. Doña Lupe needs this loan to buy cosmetics, perfumes, catalogues and shoes. She hopes her business will prosper with this loan and leave good profits because she hopes to finish building her house and give a profession to her daughters. Doña Lupe is grateful to the foundation for the trust it’s conveying by granting this loan which will help her improve her quality of life.
