Matanu M. is a married lady. Her husband is a driver, and they have four children, aged between twenty-two years old and eight years old. Her business is located at Mukuru kwa Njenga in Nairobi, and she is served by the Kitengela branch. She owns a grocery store in which she sells such items as kale, bananas and tomatoes. She has been in this business for the last five years. She says that this business is profitable and the major challenge is that there are so many people doing the same kind of business in the area. Customers are not loyal, as they are spoilt for choice. However, she works very hard to keep her business doing well. She is using her loan of Kes 60,000 to buy more kale, tomatoes and other vegetables to grow her business and meet the demands of her customers. She hopes to be a wholesaler in future and also to diversify into the salon business. She describes herself as aggressive and business-minded.
