A loan of $2,200 helped a member to buy recycled paper.

Estrellas Del Cielo Group's story

The Estrellas del Cielo (Stars in the Sky) Communal Bank is in its fourth cycles. They are enthusiastic women with the desire to continue being part of the group; they trust each other. They belong to the Villa Exaltación regional center. The bank is comprised of eight women.

Each one of the members has their own business. Some of the businesses are selling cosmetics, making clothes, a café, making pastries, selling canned goods, a sweet shop, recycling paper, and making chocolates. The Estrellas del Cielo Communal Bank is run by the board of directors. The board is comprised of a president, a treasurer, and a secretary.

The president, Iris, has been in communal banks for two and a half years. This is her fourth cycle in the Estrellas del Cielo Communal Bank. Iris is married, and she lives with her husband. They have three children under their care. The president’s business is recycling paper. She has had the business for ten years. She has a store where she gathers the papers together. She then sells this paper to the factories as they need it. She works with a girl because the store is open from nine in the morning until eight at night from Mondays through Saturdays.

The loan she is requesting is to pay the people who bring the paper. She says that she always needs to have cash to be able to make a purchase.

When asked why she is in Pro Mujer, she replied, “The loan”.
