A loan of $2,375 helped a member to purchase livestock feed and other supplies.

Miguel's Group's story

To make a living, Miguel R. raises pigs for breeding. He is 41 years old, married and has five school-aged children. They are from the village of Little Tadian. Miguel has been in his business for over five years and earns approximately 5,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) a month.

In 2010, Miguel joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve his living conditions and enable him to engage in business activities. Miguel is requesting a loan of 15,000 PHP which will be used to purchase livestock feed and other supplies. This will be his first loan from ASKI. He plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to pay the tuition fees of his children.

Miguel is the leader of a seven member group accessing a loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members, if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is "Miguel R. Group".

About ASKI:
ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 38 branches covering the central and northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly farmers, fisherfolks and small entrepreneurs.
