A loan of $650 helped buying materials to make braided panels from recycled plastic.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes, age 39, lives together with her husband Walter, age 44, who is a driver, and their 3 young children. Together they work hard every day to get ahead. This enterprising woman works creating braided panels from recyclable material. The panels are then used to make handbags, which are exported to other countries. She reports that she works for an intermediary who delivers the material. She is paid monthly for the braids, according to her production volume. She is quite satisfied because this work generates regular earnings. She has made this work into a family effort, since her husband helps her weave the plastic during his free time, and her children also help when they are on vacation from school. It is not difficult work, and the more time they dedicate to it, the more they earn. She feels that it has helped her family get ahead, and in the future she plans to set up a bookstore in her home, because there is no competition in the area where she lives. This is her fourth loan with MFP, and she promises to make her payments punctually, since she does not want to disappoint the people who made possible this funding which will permit her to continue working in search of progress. Mercedes plans to invest the loan she is requesting in buying materials, because she wants to start producing on her own, without the need for intermediaries.
