Xayyam's story

H. Xayyam is an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from the Azerbaijan- Armenian conflict territory in the Jebrayil region, situated in the western part of Azerbaijan. He settled with his family in Sumgayit city. He is 40 years old. He is married and has 2 children. Xayyam is the only breadwinner in his family.

After borrowing $500 in 2004 from Normicro, he rented a shop. He borrowed a second loan of $800 and built the grocery store. The loans were paid back on time. With his third loan of $900, he expanded the area of the shop and increased the food assortments.

Now, he needs $1,400 to expand his business, open a vegetable section, and buy digital scales. He will borrow $200 of this loan from Normicro and the other $1,200 from KIVA. He hopes eventually to expand his business. He will repay his loan on a monthly basis.
