Hermano Miguel (Cuenca) Group's story

The 'Hermano Miguel' community bank is made up of 8 women, most of whom are family members. They work in different businesses which have allowed them to help their households financially. They live in different parts of the city of Cuenca which is the third most important city in the country. This city's people, gastronomy, culture and the beauty of its nature make it great.

Narcisa Sigüenza is a member of the 'Hermano Miguel' community bank. She lives in El Salado sector, in the city of Cuenca. She is 43 years old, married, and has three children aged 23, 20 and 18. Her eldest two children are married and live independently. Her youngest daughter helps her in her work. Narcisa's husband lives abroad, looking for a better job to improve their household finances. Narcisa does not own her own home but rents instead.

Narcisa makes and sells ice cream. She has been in this business for 18 years. She sells her products all over the city and also makes deliveries. She works from Sunday to Sunday, from 7.00am to 1.00pm. This is her fourth loan through her community bank. She was invited to join the community bank by a friend and she will use her loan money to invest in buying more products with which to make her ice cream. Narcisa's dream is to buy a plot of land on which to build her own house.

Nancy C. is a member of the 'Hermano Miguel' community bank. She lives in Las Orquídeas sector, in the city of Cuenca. This is Nancy's seventh loan through our foundation and she was invited by her mom to join the community bank.

Nancy sells all kinds of clothes. She has been in this business for 2 years. She works three days a week, from 7.00am to 5.00pm. In the evenings, she studies at a school in the city where she is in her fourth year.

Nancy is 22 years old. She lives with her partner and has a one year-old child. Her husband also sells clothes. They don't have their own home but rent instead. Nancy will invest her money in buying clothes to better stock her business. Her goal is to own a vehicle so that she can transport her merchandise.
