Ngan S. is a 49-year-old farmer who lives in Banteay Meanchey province. Usually Ngan S. generates around $4 of profit a day to meet the needs of her family. Ngan S. is married to Mr. Buntry, age 51, who makes furniture such as tables and beds, and earns an income of approximately $6 per day. The couple is blessed with five children, three of whom are single, and two are married. They have two kids who are employed in different jobs, and they always share their profits to help cover the family’s daily expenses. This rice harvesting season Ngan S. needs capital to purchase many sacks of rice to store for selling when the price increases.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
