A loan of $400 helped to purchase and insure a dairy cow.

Francis's story

Francis is a farmer from the town of Kitale in western Kenya. He has been practicing mixed farming for three years now. He sells his milk, eggs and sugarcane to the local market. He also earns income from his motorcycle transport business in the same area.

Francis is twenty-one years old and single.

He has requested a loan of 31,200 KES through Kiva partner, Juhudi Kilimo, to purchase and insure a dairy cow. The extra income from this loan will help improve his livelihood and expand his business. He would like to acquire five more dairy cows and a chuff cutter in the next five years. He faces the challenge of the high cost of artificial insemination services for the cows.
