Maribel's story

Maribel is part of the communal bank, “Confiando en Ti,” in the city of Chillán. She rents a kiosk, close to the center of the city, from which she has sold newspapers and candies for 4 months. Her hours of work are Monday to Saturday from 8:30 to 5:30. Before renting the kiosk, she would sell home items from the streets.

With this loan, she will buy merchandise, as stated, newspapers and candies.

She lives with her husband and their 2 children, 14 and 4 years old.

Her dream is to have her own kiosk.

The loans from Fondo Esperanza have served Maribel well to maintain her business. Also, she is grateful since, due to the earthquake from the previous 27th of February, she lost her home and business but through Fondo Esperanza she obtained a hut, where she has made expansions and lives today.

Chillán is a municipality of the South central area of Chile. It’s name means “Seat of the sun” in mapudungun, the language of our indigenous Mapuches. Chillán is known as the “Cradle of the homeland” or the “Land of Artists,” because the city has given birth to distinguished people in the history of Chile, such as the well-known pianist Claudio Arrau.
