Friad People Yone Group's story

These are small scale businesswomen in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to seek a loan of 800,000 SLL each, to enable them expand their businesses. With their loans they will be able to add more stock to their businesses, make more sales, and more profit. Consequently, they will be able to improve their standard of living by feeding and clothing their children, and sending them to school.

Isatu C. (pictured on the left) is the leader of this group. She was born in Makeni, 47 years ago. Isatu is married and has five children – one in primary school, two in college, and two adults.

Isatu sells items like rice, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste) and salt. She has been doing this business for many years now. With her share of the loan, she will expand her business by buying more of these items at wholesale.
