A loan of $1,025 helped a member buying ingredients for making incense.

Teriya Group's story

The women of the group Teriya are all married and average 38 years of age and three children living in traditional extended families in Barouéli City, Barouéli prefecture, Region of Ségou (4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The group members know one another through ties of kinship, and they do commerce in perfumes, condiments, incense, and clothing. The group members are now on their sixth solidarity loan, which will be used to buy perfumes, condiments, cloth, and the ingredients for making incense.

Ms. BINTOU C. intends to use her loan for buying a sack of incense seeds (magnonkissèni) and a few bottles of perfume from Barouéli retailers. After the final product is made, it is sold in cash or credit transactions to a customer base composed of women and men.

She envisions making an average monthly profit of 30,000 francs CFA that will be used to cover the loan payments and to meet expenses related to healthcare, food, and schooling. The rest will be reinvested in her business.
