A loan of $1,000 helped to buy a scanner.

Katty Belin's story

Every two weeks the members of the 'Las Orquideas' (The Orchids) community bank meet in the Los Tamarindos neighborhood, in the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabi. This city has been known for many years as 'The City of the Royal Tamarind Trees'.

Katty has been a member of this community bank for 8 years and she likes it because the interest rates are very low compared to other banks. Katty is 38 years old, married and has two children aged 12 and 4. Her eldest is in high school and her young daughter is in pre-school. Her husband is a car mechanic.

Katty is a very good housewife who, in order to help her husband with their household expenses, takes loans for her husband's business. Her husband owns a car repair shop. She helps him since he also sells spare parts, oil and other car accessories in his shop. Katty works from Monday to Saturday, from 8.00am to 8.00pm. They have three workers who help them in their work and they pay these workers a weekly salary.

This loan will be used to buy a scanner to service the computerized parts of the cars her husband works on. Her goals are to never lack work and for the garage to keep growing every day.
