A loan of $550 helped to purchase flour, eggs, sugar, water, etc...

Marcolfa Emperatriz's story

In the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí, known for many years as the city of the real tamarinds, the members of the Banco Comunal Luz y Progreso meet every 5 days.

This is where we met Marcolfo, 41 years old, married with three children aged 23,17 and 15 that study in the University and high school. Her husband is a barber. She has been in the Banco Communal for more than three years, is the president of the same and this has given her a lot of responsibility. She enjoys it because the loans have really helped her as much as her companions in the group.

She has a small workshop where she makes ice cream cones. She works Monday to Saturday from 8:00 until 17:00. Her children help her work. When the delicious cones are ready, they deliver them in their neighborhood to local ice cream shops. She tells us that she learned this from her mother since a young age and has worked in this business for more than 15 years. It has served her well.

This loan is to purchase materials and ingredients to make cones. Her dreams are to have a big business and finish the house that she has in construction.
