Ty P., 45, is a widow and lives with three children in Takeo province. Since 2007, she has been selling porridge and is able to make about US$2 of profit each day, along with the income of two children who work in construction. Ty P. will purchase rice and take off the husk with the intention of reselling the rice and turning over a profit. She is confident that this will be a good business venture and sees it as a way to increase her income and raise her family’s standard of living.
