Mariela's story

Mariela, 26, is separated. She lives with her family in La Pilca, a rural area in Olmos, a district of Peru that is about an hour and a half from the city of Chiclayo.

Mariela operates a food business, making and selling piqueos (a local dish similar to croquettes). She makes chifles (a kind of piqueo made with fried sweet potatoes and bananas) along with a maize-based snack called palomitas de maiz. She makes the food at home and sells it to truckers and other passers-by on the side of a nearby highway. The business is Mariela's main source of income so she tries to improve it however she can.

Mariela is applying for a loan so that she can buy supplies for making piqueos. She is asking Edpyme Alternativa for a 500 new soles loan so that she can buy the supplies that she needs.
