Demesia's story

Demesia, 45, is a member of the “Las Huancheñas” communal bank located in Huancané district, Huancané province, Puno department. She’s married and has six children, three of whom still depend on her. She did not finish elementary school. She has collaborated with the Manuela Ramos Movement for the last year. Her first requested loan was for 500 soles that she used in her meal sale business. She will ask for a new, 1500 new sol, loan to buy six sacks of rice, five bags of noodles, cooking oils, potatoes, etc. She gets help from her children and her husband works in transportation. Her dream is to have more capital to build her house and set up an pensión (room rental and meals service). What she likes about her communal bank is the cheerfulness of the members and what her savings earn.
