Las Emprendedoras [Entrepreneurial Women] is the name of the excellent group of women from Capiata, formed on October 21, 2009, thanks to the efforts of the current Director of Finances, Mrs. Teodora F., who sells fruits and vegetables. At a weekly meeting of the Comité de Mujeres Emprendadoras [Committee of Women Entrepreneurs] that was being held in her area, Mrs. F. consulted with the adviser to find out what kind of work they did. Once she was advised about the Program, she managed to pull together 21 women who are already in their 6th loan cycle happily working together in solidarity within the program. All of them do activities to earn money, and they help each other to reach common goals within the group and in Fundación Paraguaya. The president of the group is Maria, who sells prepared foods such as empanadas, breaded meat cutlets, hot dogs, hamburgers and more. Every day she is determined to take great care in preparing the foods to sell, and in this way to be a great help to her family. She requests the loan for the purchase of meat and oil, essential ingredients for her foods, and which these days are very expensive in our area.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
