A loan of $1,000 helped to buy lottery tickets.

Rosa Amelia's story

The July 22nd Community Bank meets every two weeks in the parish of Picoaza in the city of Portoviejo. It is an area well known for its commerce, for its traditional festivals of St. Pedro and St. Pablo, and for its happy people.

58-year old Señora Rosa lives here. She is separated from her husband but has six children by him. All of them are adults. One daughter lives in her house with her husband and two children who bring Rosa a great deal of joy. She has been with the community bank for three years, and she really likes the bank as it has provided much help with loans.

Rosa runs a business selling lottery tickets in the streets of the town of Manta. She works every day from 9am to 6pm and has been doing this for more than thirty years. She likes the work as it has allowed her to to help her children get ahead.

Rosa needs this loan to buy lottery tickets with cash and thus get the best price. This in turn generates the most profit. Her dream is to have a permanent location from which to sell tickets
