Renovacion Las Aguilas 3 Group's story

Maria is the coordinator of her group Renovacion las Aguilas 3 (eagles renewal). She makes her home here in a simple structure with her long-term partner and their three children. She says that her dream is to have her own house.

Maria is excited to be taking her fourth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She has had her business for amost 2 years, starting with her first Esperanza loan. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business by buying different products like clothing, shoes, and cosmetics to sell.

Maria began with us because she wants to progress and have a business. Her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients generally, many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti. Her group is located in Santiago, an area famous for tobacco and beef production, and the second biggest city in the Dominican Republic. This area, like nearly all impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic, suffers from unreliable electricity and running water—none of which is potable.

In this group: Maria, Leani, Claritza, Maria, Haidee
