Malka Irina's story

Malka has a business in Villa del Carmen called "Ferreteria Malka" (hardware store), she sells building materials, concrete blocks made at the store, which started three years ago as a family business selling what was produced, she bought the land, built a house and was able to increase sales volumes and create four job opportunities for two block makers and two handlers. Malka also has 2 wheelbarrows that help transport the materials her clients buy. This credit is her first loan with Kiva, through "fundacion Mario Santo Domingo", with it she will buy cement, sand and make blocks for pending orders. Her business has daily average sales of $115 USD (220,000 Colombian pesos) with a gross margin of 10%. Malka is a brave entrepreneur that lives with her five year old son and a niece, she is the head of the family and her dream is to expand the business until it becomes the best hardware store in the area, she wants to help her family get ahead, particularly her son, she has a big challenge ahead because during raining season orders get behind but she knows better times will come for her and her family.
