Araceli's story

Araceli L. Hernandez is originally from the region known as San Jose Purua. It is located in the state of Michoacan, a beautiful region known for its thermal water springs. Araceli is 38 years old and she has a grade six education. Her parents did not have sufficient funds to keep her in school. Her community did not have a high school at the time and they would have had to move to another community to attend. Chely, as she is known to her friends, requests a loan to invest in her restaurant (restaurant where dinners are served). There she sells pozole, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas etc. She opens the restaurant on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. During the week she sells vegetables from a stand she has in the downtown area. She is married to Isidro, a butcher, and they have 3 children together. The eldest girl is married. The second youngest is 12 years old and she is in primary school and Jesus Guadalupe is 1 year old. She wishes to invest in her business with the purchase of grocery items. Slowly she has been purchasing more items to be well stocked. Her husband is a very hard working person who, on Sundays, sells barbecued meats. She and her husband work hard because they are having a house built for them. She says that they are saving to purchase windows and doors. She would like to live there already because it is made of cement. Where they live now is on loan from her father and it is a house made of wood and in the winter it is very cold.
