María Livia's story

María C. is a member of the 'Prosperidad' community bank. She lives in the Feria Libre sector of the city of Cuenca. This city is known for its architectural beauty and its people who maintain its culture and traditions. The people are also very kind and friendly.

María is 29 years old. She lives with her partner and has 5 children aged 12, 8, 7, 1 and 2 months. Her eldest three children study in a school in the city. Her husband makes sports clothes. They don't have their own home but rent instead.

María works together with her husband making sports clothes. She has been in this business for eight years. Her husband taught her the trade and they have their own small workshop. They work there from 6.00am to 7.00pm. They don't rest a single day but work from Sunday to Sunday.

This is María's first loan and she was invited to join her community bank by a friend who was already a member. She will invest her loan in buying raw material such as fabric, thread, etc. Her goal is to have a bigger workshop.
