A loan of $375 helped to buy 10 sacks of organic fertilizer and to hire laborers to help him weed his land.

Alberto's story

Alberto is 27 years old. He lives with his partner, 25 year-old Haydee. Together they have 2 children: 6 year-old Jefferson and 1 year-old Renzo. They live in their own home which is located in the town of Ricrican. This hard-working man is a farmer. His main crops are tubers such as potatoes and 'olluco' (a native tuber). "My parents taught me everything I needed to know about cultivation techniques", he says. The good care that Alberto constantly takes of his crops means that his harvests are good and are in great demand in Tarma's central market. He has been doing this hard work for 10 years. Now Alberto not only continues growing crops but he also bought several rams which are now growing strong and healthy. Alberto is certain of the willpower and strength that he has and so he is investing some more in improving his crops. This is Alberto's ninth loan with MFP and he is a responsible and very hard-working member of his community bank. He will use his loan money to buy 10 sacks of organic fertilizer which costs around 100 Peruvian soles a sack and, if the loan money stretches far enough, he will also invest in maintaining his farmland. For this, he needs laborers who he will hire to help clear the weeds that are growing on his land.
