A loan of $725 helped maintain corn crops.

María Esther's story

María Esther is 39 years old, separated from her husband, and has two young children who live in the sector of Mochumanos, district of Pitipo, which is a rural agricultural area consisting of various small localities in the province of Ferreñafe, an hour from the city of Chiclayo. She has made a living in agriculture for the past five years. She has a parcel of land of 1.5 hectares, where she usually plants corn. María has a good knowledge of managing these crops and depends on the income from this activity to make headway for her children. Additionally, she has a few cows whose milk she sells to her neighbors. María wants to tend to her crops by applying fertilizers, pesticides and irrigation. To do so, she is requesting a loan of 2000 soles from Kiva partner Edpyme Alternativa to allow her to acquire the products she needs, which include gasoline to power a motor to extract water from a nearby well.
