Elvira's story

Elvira is 54 years old and a hard working, responsible mother who lives in her own home, along with her husband and 15 year old daughter, Isabel. A few years ago, Elvira decided to begin selling snacks. Her business, a small cart, is located along a main street in her district. Since then she's been serving her customers daily. Her daughter helps her when she's not in school or studying. This allows Elvira to go to the market to stock up on merchandise. She enjoys her business because of the good profits it generates for her. Never the less she is subject to various risks when she works late into the night.

In the future she plans to expand her business and begin selling food as a parallel business. This will be her ninth loan through MFP. She knows that if she repays this one on time, she will be able to get another one more easily, without placing a burden on the members of her communal bank, where she is well respected.

She will use the money from this loan to buy a variety of snacks in order to make her business an attractive one.
