A loan of $950 helped a member to purchase additional inventory and use as working capital.

Annaliza's Group's story

Annaliza C., from the town of Sta. Maria, Cauayan City, is the 39-year-old group leader of a six-member group loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.

Annaliza, who is married and has three school-aged children, makes a living from preparing and selling tocino (cured pork) and longganisa (pork sausages) in the local community. Engaged in her business for over four years, she earns approximately 4000 PHP a month.

In 2009, Annaliza joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Having repaid her previous loan from ASKI, she is now requesting a new loan of 8000 PHP to purchase additional inventory and use as working capital. This will be Annaliza's fourth loan from ASKI, and she plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand her enterprise.

About ASKI:

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 38 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly farmers, fisherfolks and small entrepreneurs.
