Ngoun L. is a 61-year-old farmer who lives in Kompong Tom Province Ngoun L. is married to Nao Roun, age 60. This couple, who work together in the farming business, has given birth to three children: one of whom is single and two are married. One of her daughter earns her living by selling some items in her community. Her products are fast foods, soft drink, shampoo, and plastic goods. Ngoun L. is concerned that her core income in her family comes from her daughter’s business. Therefore, Ngoun L. will use her loan for her daughter to purchase additional products such as fast food, soft drink, and other necessary items for selling and to hire a domestic laborer to cultivate the rest of her farmland.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
