A loan of $450 helped buy meat, oil, coal, etc.

Soledad Fabiola's story

Soledad T. is a member of the Las Caleras communal bank. She lives in the Las Caleras neighbourhood in the city of Cuenca, renowned for its beautiful historic centre, its churches, its diverse cuisine and its people, who maintain their culture and traditions.

She is 26 years old, married with a 6 year old son and an 11 month old baby. Her eldest goes to school in the city. Her husband is a painter-decorator. They don´t own a house so they live in a communal house in the neighbourhood, which they look after.

Soledad sells chuzos (meat skewers). She has been doing this for 2 years. She starts preparing the products at 6am in the morning and sells them from 4pm to 10pm. She sells her products in the street sidewalks from Monday through Saturday.

This is her second loan. Her neighbour invited her to join the communal bank. She is going to invest the loan in the purchase of meat, oil, coal, etc to continue with her business. Her dream is to own her own house.
