A loan of $900 helped buy sponges, paints, glitter, craft foam, etc.

Marlene Yesenia's story

The members of the community bank "Virgen de Monserrate" meet every two weeks in the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabi which has been known for many years as the city of the royal tamarinds. Here we met Marlene who is 32 years old. She is single and lives at her parents' house with her three siblings. She studies child care at a university on Saturdays and Sundays and works at a nursery from Monday to Friday. She also does crafts and makes Christmas decorations and surprises. She makes these products using craft foam, fabric, sponges and other products. She delivers the orders for her products at the organization "Plan Internacional" and to individuals. She works from Monday to Saturday in the evenings since she works at the nursery in the morning. With this loan she will buy sponges, paints, glitter, craft foam and other materials necessary to make her products. She is a founding member of the community bank and she likes it because of the help they provide to people like her to help their businesses succeed. Her dreams are to incorporate, obtain an appointment as a teacher and to have her own company.
