Pictured here are 3 small businesswomen in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to seek a loan of SLL 1,400,000 for each, to enable them expand their businesses. With a loan of SLL 1,400,000, they will be able to add more stock to their businesses, make more sales, and create more profit. Consequently, they will be able to improve their standard of living by sending their children to school, and to feed and clothe them. Fatu K. is the leader of this group. She was born in a village call Gbendembu Ngowahun, in northern Sierra Leone about sixty-five years ago. She is married and has ten children. Fatu sells firewood. She has been running this business for ten years. She is requesting this loan in order to purchase piles of firewood from the neighboring villages to sell.
