A loan of $675 helped to buy guinea pigs.

María Dolores's story

Mrs. María R. is a member of the La Estancia communal bank. She lives in La Estancia which is in Paute canton. This canton is characterized by the natural beauty of its scenery. It has a mild climate and beautiful flowers are grown in its fields. Its people are very warmhearted and gracious.

For several years María has raised animals like pigs, guinea pigs and chickens that she sells in her own community, an activity she learned from her parents and that has helped her support her family.

She is 40 years old and lives in a common law union. She has four children who are 20, 17, 7 and 2 years of age. Her oldest daughter stays home and helps with the household chores. Her second son works but just to meet his personal expenses. Her third son goes to the local school. Her husband is a driver by profession. Their work as a couple has resulted in their being able to build their own house.

She has been a member of the communal bank for 4 years. She likes it because the loans are beneficial to her work. The money from the loan will be used to buy guinea pigs. Her goal is to move her children ahead so that they will have a better future.
