A loan of $725 helped to buy baby chicks, feed and vitamins.

Americo's story

Américo B. was born in Nampula, Northern Mozambique. He's 42 years old, married and the father of 4 children ages 5, 8, 14 and 15, all attending school. He lives with his family in a house they own.

When he was younger Américo left Nampula to go study in Germany. When the 10 year state-funded course he was enrolled in was interrupted in the 7th year, due to budget problems, he was sent back to Mozambique, where he found a job as a security guard at a private home. He's been working there for the past 15 years, currently earning a salary of 3.000.00 mt. He also runs a small grocery store from home and raises poultry to sell. With the help of his wife, their business make 10.000.00mt per month, which allows them to pay for household and business expenses as well as save some money in the bank.

This is Américo's second loan with Hluvuku and Kiva. He will use the 25.000.00mt to buy baby chicks, feed and vitamins for his poultry business. He used his previous loan in the same manner.

He's confident that he'll be able to pay back his loan ahead of schedule, since he can count on the profits from his other business.
