Chimalpain Group's story

This is the 'Chimalpain' group. Its members chose this name because it is the name of the community where they all live, on the outskirts of San Miguel Xico. The group has thirteen members who work hard every day to get ahead in life and provide a better future for their families. The members are: Minerva V. (bag embroidery), Patricia D. (cosmetics sales), Bianca M. (cosmetics sales), María Guillermina T. (napkin embroidery), Dora Nelly C. (shoe sales), Eugenia Graciela (dressmaking), Arturo B. (blacksmith), Jorge Alberto A. (handicrafts store), Patricia Esmeralda T. ('antojitos' sales – traditional Mexican snacks), Irene R. (tablecloth embroidery), Marisela Adriana M. (handicrafts sales), Dayana C. (food sales) and Juan Javier S. (jewelry sales).

Guillermina T. is a member of the group. She is 47 years old and lives with her husband and two school-age daughters. Guillermina sells embroidered napkins. She has been doing this for ten years and started her business because she needed to help with her household expenses and have more income. Guillermina takes classes to learn different embroideries so that she can keep being innovative in the designs of her goods and thereby make more sales. She sells a lot of her products on Mothers' Day and over the Christmas period. During the year, people who already know her go to her house and make their orders. Guillermina has also started selling cosmetics through a catalog. She hopes to be successful in her two business activities and to continue working.

Guillermina will use her loan to buy materials such as threads, needles, tablecloths, napkins, worsted yarn, etc. Her plans are to set up a fruit and veg store and also take advantage to display her tablecloths and napkins well so that she can increase her profits.

Chimalpain are very happy to be part of Kiva since it will benefit them greatly.
