Rosemary's story

Rosemary N. lives in the Mulago neighborhood in the city of Kampala, Uganda. She is married and has 7 children, five of whom are in school. She also takes care of additional family members (grandchildren). She lives in a home that she rents; she doesn't have access to electricity and doesn't have access to piped water. Her major monthly expenses include rent, school fees and feeding the family. Rosemary runs a retail shop. She has been in this business for 4 years, and she works 7 days a week. She also generates additional income through tailoring. She has requested a loan of 400,000 Ugandan Shillings from MCDT SACCO, which she will use to buy more bags of sugar, cartons of salt ,boxes of soap, and cooking oil for her shop. The main business challenges for Rosemary are seasonality and defaulters . Her goals and aspirations are to educate her children through to university, and also to build her own house.
