A loan of $775 helped to buy fish, prawns, scallops, etc.

María Graciela's story

Every fortnight the members of the '25 Rosas' community bank meet in the beautiful city of Bahía De Caraquez which is known for its beaches, its good food and the warmth of its people.

In this beautiful place we meet María. She is 52 years old and lives with her common-law husband with whom she has four daughters aged 33, 23, 20 and 19. She still lives with her two youngest daughters, one of whom is studying at university. Her husband is a salesman who sells seafood.

María and her husband both sell seafood. They work every day from 5.00am to 3.00pm. They buy their products from the fisherman and they deliver them to their customers. They deliver their products to Bahía Hospital and also have a market stall from which they sell their seafood retail to people who come there every day to do their shopping. They say that they have had their business for 20 years and that it has always done very well because they are happy to work.

This loan will be used to buy more products such as fish, prawns, scallops, etc. María has been a member of her community bank for 5 years and she likes the ease with which she can obtain loans. Her dream is to buy a car so that she can take her products to Quito which is a good market.
