Cuenca, Ecuador / Animal Sales

A loan of $450 helped purchase cattle.

María Angelita's story

Maria S. is a member of the community bank Narancay Bajo and lives in a community that bears the same name. This community is located in the outskirts of the city and its people dedicate themselves to agriculture and animal husbandry. Much of its population has found work in the city in order to improve their economy.

Maria is 32 years old and lives in a common law marriage. She has three children that are 12, 10 and 8 years old. All of her children study in a city school. Her husband works in construction and is a master mason. They do not have their own home so they rent.

Maria is a private employee which she has been doing for 5 years. She works from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and at her home she raises animals such as guinea pigs, chickens and cattle. These animals are for her consumption and for sale.

This is her third loan with the community bank. She was invited by a neighbor who is an active member of the bank. She will purchase cattle with the money from her loan. Her goal is to finish her home as it is currently under construction.
