A loan of $625 helped a member to buy vegetable oil, groundnuts, fish, sugar and cooking condiments in large quantities for resale.

People Yone Group's story

Meet the members of the “People Yone” group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 for each member. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve on their living conditions.

Musu T. is the leader of this group. The 22-year-old is married to a businessman and they have three children. Musu has been a businesswoman for five years now. She sells market food – vegetable oil, groundnuts, fish, sugar and other cooking condiments. With her share of this loan, she will be able to expand her business by buying the above mentioned items in larger quantities to add to her current stock.
