Kantutas Group's story

The “KANTUTAS” (the national flower of Perú and one of two national flowers of Bolivia) communal bank is a group starting its fourth cycle in Panamericana Focal Center. It has 10 members. The governing board this cycle has Adela as President, Felisa as Treasurer and Virginia as Recording Secretary. The women all have different businesses. Among them are: merchant, tucumanas (fried cheese turnover) sales, plastics sales, sale of infant wear, grocery store, tailor shop, food sales, crafts, purse sales. Adela, “KANTUTAS” communal bank President, has a home consisting of her partner and three children. She has been in the business of selling plastics (hangers, dust bins) for four years. She started this enterprise following her mother’s example who traversed the city of Sucre with merchandise many years ago. She makes her purchases in La Paz and her sales are in the interior in the cities of Sucre and Potosí. She asked for a Bs.3000 loan to buy more merchandise. When we asked her what she liked best about Pro Mujer she answered: “the meetings” because they clear the mind.
