Teresa's story

Señora Teresa is a member of the Las Perlas Manantay communal bank, in the Department of Ucayali. She is 60 years old, and is married with 4 grown-up children.

She dedicates her time to selling groceries. She started with a little capital and has been increasing it gradually over the two and a half years since she has been working with [the field partner] Manuela Ramos. Her husband looks after the store whenever she is not there.

With this new loan of 2,300 Soles, she will buy more staple goods (1 sack of rice, 1 sack of sugar, 1 bag of noodles, 1 crate of cooking oil, 1 crate of small cartons of milk and 1 of large cartons of milk, 1 dozen bags of oatmeal, 1 pack of salt, 1 bag of detergent, 2 crates of cookies, 3 packs of lavatory paper, ½ a crate of canned foods).

Señora Teresa is happy that she has her own business, small though it may be, and is grateful to Manuela Ramos for the opportunity to access credit.
