Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Alicia's story

Alicia is a member of the communal bank "Mujeres al Desarrollo," located in the province and department of Puno. She is 38 years old, married, and has 4 children, 2 of whom are independent. She has a degree from the Instituto Sencico y Cetpro.

She started working with the Movimiento Manuela Ramos organization 8 years ago; her first loan was for 200 Peruvian soles, which she used for working capital in her business. She has a business making and selling embroidered cases.

She requests a new loan in the amount of 1,000 Peruvian soles that she will use to purchase cases for glasses and cloth for her embroidery.

Her vision for her business is to have a well-equipped workshop.

What she likes about her communal bank is that she can access loans with reasonable payment terms.
